The Loneliest Planet is a new movie featuring an engaged couple—played by Gael Garcia Bernal and Hani Furstenberg—backpacking through Georgia's Caucasus Mountains. The synopsis: "The couple hires a local guide...Walking for hours, they trade anecdotes, play games to pass the time of moving through space. And then, a momentary misstep, a gesture that takes only two or three seconds, a gesture that’s over almost as soon as it begins...Once it is done, it threatens to undo everything the couple believed about each other and about themselves."
Fascinating, right? Will you see it? It's the first movie I've been really excited about for ages; it opens tomorrow and will be on demand on October 30th.

Totally! I can not wait to watch it now. Thanks for that Joanna. Happy Thursady xoxo
ReplyDeleteOf course. I'm so intrigued.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cliff hanger! I want to see it now! I hope it isn't anticlimactic though.
ReplyDeletei know! i'm dying to know what happens and what the gesture was. this trailer is one of the very few that don't give away the whole movie! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Looks really good. We have a new baby, so we won't see it in theaters, but definitely when it becomes available on demand. Thanks for this!!!
ReplyDeleteheidi, i agree, although i doubt it will be anticlimactic because a) GGB is such an amazing actor and seem to choose awesome scripts and b) it's been getting so much buzz in film circles already (according to the website). i can't wait!
ReplyDeletewow sounds so intriguing!!
ReplyDeleteso excited that will be on ondemand, but now my curiosity is KILLING me...
ReplyDeletehelen :)
we've got a lot to say
oh no! i'm so curious! haha i guess the trailer really does it's duty then!
ReplyDeleteIt's based on a short story called Expensive Trips Nowhere, if anyone is more of a reader than a movie watcher (or both!)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to watch it!
ReplyDeleteOh that looks really good! I'll be watching it On Demand ASAP!
ReplyDeleteArghh, I want to know what happens!!! I am going to check the iMDb website right now...

Gah! What suspense! I can't wait to see this. It looks a little spooky though, might have to watch it peeking through my fingers.

I've been waiting for this to come out! Thanks for reminding me :)
ReplyDeleteI love Gael Garcia Bernal in the motorcyle diaries! This looks really intriguing. I'm so curious to find out what the moment is. I hate scary movies though and I couldn't figure out from the trailer whether it was supposed to actually be scary or not..
ReplyDeleteFrom what I read, it doesn't sound like a scary movie. The gesture is so simple but huge. It seems like it will be more about the effect on their relationship than trying to scare people. I couldn't resist and read the spoiler . . .
DeleteOh my gosh Joanna, this looks insanely intriguing...
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing it with us!
what could this gesture be!!!
It looks like it will be really scary. I'll pass!
ReplyDeleteOoh, it's a "must watch" for sure! Ever since The Motorcycle Diaries, I've felt in some way obligated to watch all of Gael Garcia Bernal's films!
ReplyDeletei've had a massive crush on gael (yes, we're on first name basis) for years. and this movie looks great! i'm absolutely going to watch it.
ReplyDelete-ale
Well, I've found it rather boring, to tell you the truth... The movie is nothing like the trailer.
ReplyDeleteMy new coworker is from Georgia! Thanks for giving me something to bond with her over :)
ReplyDeletelooks like it might be scary!
ReplyDeleteWow, must see. I love Gael Garcia Bernal!
ReplyDeletethis looks so good! definitely buying it on demand when it comes out!
ReplyDeleteThis looks intense! I'm adding to our watch on-demand list. Before our two-year-old son came along, we saw movies in a theater at least a couple of times a month. Now not so much...although we are going to a Jens Lekman concert next week! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this really leaves you in suspense. I haven't been excited about a movie in a long time but definitely want to see this!
ReplyDeleteI want to watch it. RIGHT NOW.
ReplyDeleteI love him! The actor, Gael Garcia! I'll definitely be watching.
ReplyDeletewww.therecordologist.blogspot.com
It looks pretty intense. Gael is such an amazing actor. Please, tell us what you think after you see it.
ReplyDeleteSO intrigued by this movie! I just searched for local movie times but they haven't been released yet. I will definitely be on the lookout for when it comes out. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow this looks AAWESOME! A must see :)
ReplyDeleteI can't tell if it's going to be scary or not. I cannot deal with scary.
ReplyDeleteI so love that these types of movies are on demand now, makes it so convenient to curl up on a Friday night in bed and watch a movie that isn't a big blockbuster, plus it's fun to be able to talk to my husband while we watch!
ReplyDeleteDon't google the book it's based on! I just did, and a spoiler was the first thing I saw. :(
ReplyDeletei couldn't help myself -- i read the spoiler ! this move looks terrific, even still.
ReplyDeleteLooks really interesting, I'll see it for sure!
ReplyDeleteIt looks super interesting! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone read the book "Little Bee?" This trailer kind of reminds me of that story - how one "incident" that happened while the couple was traveling out of the country completely changed their marriage forever.
ReplyDeleteThis trailer makes it look awesomely freaky. And now I really want to see it. Gosh, I'm such a sucker!
ReplyDeletelove the trailer! and love anything with gael garcia benal, so yes i'll be seeing! thanks joanna! xx

Ever since Motorcycle Diaries Gael Garcia Bernal has been on my radar! :)
ReplyDeleteThis actually looks really good & I can't wait to find out the twist.

I did a bit of sleuthing and it looks like it'll be a scary movie. I like movies w. happy endings and by the sound of the short story it's based on, not sure there will be one.
ReplyDeletedude, that looks amazing! you always feature the best movies.
ReplyDeleteThis looks quite interesting. I can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks great.
ReplyDeleteI love Gael Garcia Bernal! Looks good!

wait? amnesia or something?
ReplyDeleteirocksowhat.com
yes! i totally want to see that. and i think my husband would be interested in it, too (score!). thanks for the suggestion, joanna!
ReplyDeleteIt does look amazing. Pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteyoh! that looks hectic… but good!
ReplyDeleteCould there be a happy ending? Oh, I hope so...
ReplyDeleteSo cool! Add me to the group who loves Gael. Also love that the director is female. Thanks for the rec, Joanna!
ReplyDeleteLooks intense! I think I'll watch it just for the sake of the scenery. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this trailer before! I adore Gael Garcia Bernal. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Gael Garcia Bernal!
ReplyDelete(Don't worry, there are no spoilers in this comment!)
ReplyDeleteThe "gesture" that they keep referring to made me go "Eeeek!" and get huge eyes. It's something so simple, but it TOTALLY changes everything for this couple, and you will definitely understand why when you see it.
I had to go read a spoiler as soon as I watched this. And wow. Really, just wow. The "gesture" is so small and so simple, like you said, but I think it'll strike a chord with everyone who watches the movie.
Delete<3 gael garcia bernal. i loved the science of sleep.
ReplyDeletethat looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have seen that movie in Portugal already. It's nice. Especially the landscapes! Really, really beautiful! Like I said, it's a nice movie. But don't get your expectations too high. :)
ReplyDeletethis looks great. unfortunately it's getting horrible reviews.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, way to hook us in! I'd really like to see it

Very intriguing! The director's first film, Day Night Day Night has some missteps, but is absolutely memorable and this looks like it will be too.
ReplyDeleteMy comment doesn't contain any spoilers, but I have a question for those of you that have seen it/read the spoiler.
ReplyDeleteWill watching the movie make me not want to go backpacking in the mountains? I know a lot of people have said it isn't scary, but I also don't want to be deterred from any future adventures that I might plan. The setting is so unique, that I'm led to believe there is something integral to the plot that is specific to being isolated in the wilderness or being in a foreign country or something like that.
So is that the case, or could this gesture-or-incident-or-whatever occur anytime, anyplace?
Yes, it could. Don't worry - it won't deter you from a backpacking adventure at all :)
DeleteIt's true, that idea of mental furniture. My husband is a priest, and when he visits the very elderly, often they can't remember a lot of things and sometimes can't even have a conversation, but when he sings an old hymn with them or performs the liturgy, they sing or speak along, bc thay memorized it so long ago, and in that moment, they are so happy and aware, and communing with this other human being for a little while.cheap prom dresses
ReplyDeleteOh my, this was a terrible movie. My manfellow and I just watched it. Boo. The cinematography was wonderful, but the storyline was a bit slow. And honestly, I thought the redhead was being such a girl. Humans are human; we all have snap reactions, regardless of gender. Fantastic scenery though. I surely want to backpack through those mountains!
ReplyDeletebought tix for tuesday, but sandy had other plans for IFC :( hopefully IFC will let me transfer my tix to another date! i really want to see it!
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what to think about this film. It totally was a conversation starter, but did it really need to take 1 hour and 50 minutes for that one moment? Nothing else happened!
ReplyDeleteI watched it upon your recommendation (I love your taste) and it was awful! I'm actually only halfway through on Netflix streaming right now and I'm not sure I can force myself to finish it. Painfully boring. Don't waste your time. I'm past the "pivotal moment" already too and imo, it's overblown.
